(Non) addressed statement by Táňa Kuzmová

She speaks silently, focused. Her gestures are quieted down, she moves without distraction. She spreads her artwork on the ground, on the table, on the bed, leaning them against the walls. The room’s space is filled with drawings, cartons, paper works on the paper. Papers are different formats and tones. From white, through grey, to pale and dark ochre. The colour range of the background is clean, pleasantly soft.
Táňa Kuzmová accepts this colourful alternative as the ideal counterpoint to her work. Her work is not kind to the given nature of the background colours. She deliberately disrupts this idyllic colourfulness and destructs it. She enters various formats aggressively, with a strong gesture. Her fine art instruments are pencils of different hardness, black charcoal, black chalk, black thread or black wool for knitting.
She disturbs the colour of the selected background with a strong emotional gesture. It is a reflection of the soul of the quiet observer on the irritating moments of everyday life. She breaks down the imaginative filter of a carefree life. She whips her papers, cartons with merciless flicks of a black moving line; she does so through pencils, chalks, hand sewing or sewing on a Veritas sewing machine.
The quiet room of small dimensions in the Petržalka block of flats is filled from its corners to it’s ceiling with a strong emotional experience.
That one Saturday afternoon. A report on Táňa Kuzmová’s tough everyday experience. This message is legible and it can be deciphered accurately and directly. A report on living there behind the window of a room in Petržalka. A chance to defend yourself, to free yourself, it is about handing over the deeply felt, and about pointing it out it for others.
Our space is full of impressions and experiences, from our earthly universe to the infinite universe.
We can choose. Táňa Kuzmová chooses, saves, does not hasten. A few works per year. Few? What is the norm?
A pure, deeply felt perception and creative artefact? Perhaps. Being involved in day-to-day matters. With your truth in the force of trends and isms. The room grew dusky soft, it was affable. The cake was delicious. Despite the fact that the room was full of whipping black lines. Táňa Kuzmová was quietly smiling without one word.
